What were the federalist fears toward having a president and how did the electoral college help calm the fears?

They feared having another king/absolute ruler, and at first didn't want to have a president, but instead wanted a legislative body to run the new nation. Now we have both, but when you consider recent events(Lord Obama and the cult he has created), you have to wonder whether the Founding Fathers are turning in their graves.
