you know how mitosis forms more body cells by cell division? well meiosis forms the cells (gametes) through a similar process. these cells have only 23 chromosomes (body cells have 46). an egg cell and a sperm cell (gametes formed with meiosis) combine to make a cell with a set of 46 chromosomes. that cell uses mitosis to divide until it becomes a baby.
