What's the best hair gel or wax to use?

I'm been trying to do Cloud's hairstyle on FFVII. I have a long asian haircut and I have yellow highlights. I use gatsby wax (the black one) but I just can't apreciate it because it's too sticky and too hard for my hair. I want my hair that stands up not too hard, flowing, and gives a smooth and soft look while maintaining my spiky stand out hair. and heres the funny part, I can't even get that duck tail style right on the back portion. lol. anybody has ideas of what else I can use? tnx in advance.
