Was I supposed to learn genetics in high school?

I'm completely lost in my evolutionary biology cl. my professor just automatically umes that i learned genetics and begins talking about "phenotypes", "genotypes", "alleles", "haploids", "diploids" and all that crap. He doesn't even clarify these terms, he just briefly goes over these. Was I supposed to learn this stuff in high school or is my professor just being an Ahole?
